Sports Council organizes sports activities in South and Central Kashmir

SRINAGAR: A number of sports activities were held across the union territory J&K today as well. The star attraction of the day was the twin events of Central and South Kashmir.

While in South Kashmir, J&K Sports Council in collaboration with Rajpora Youth organized a sports event for public awareness about the ill effects of drug abuse in the Indoor Sports Complex in Rajpora Pulwama.

The event was not only aimed at showcasing the athletic prowess of the participants but also served as a platform for critical discussions and the announcement of significant initiatives for the development of sports infrastructure in the region. The event commenced with great enthusiasm, as the locals and people from adjoining areas gathered in large numbers to witness an array of sporting activities

The Secretary of J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull presided over the function as the chief guest while Divisional Sports Officer Kashmir Nuzhat Farooq was the guest of honor on the occasion. The event brought an audience from varied backgrounds together which included students, teachers, local Awkaaf Islamic scholars, and prominent personalities from the adjoining areas.

While speaking on the occasion, Nuzhat Gull the esteemed emphasized on the importance of promoting sports psychology as a means to combat the drug menace adding that sports has a great positive impact on society which will go a long way in making it robust and pragmatic.

Secretary Sports Council met numerous delegations and gave a patient hearing to their concerns, assuring that all genuine issues will be addressed soon. Nuzhat Gull gave on-spot directions for the installation of a large generator for the Indoor Complex, as well as the face-lifting and construction of a boundary wall around the complex and volleyball court besides approving the distribution of sports equipment which was in addition to the on-spot distribution today and further enhancement of existing facilities for athletes.

Secretary Sports Council assured the participants of her commitment to initiate various construction works including laying of new cricket turf and pavilion.

While speaking on the occasion, Chairman Awkaaf Bapora, Ghulam Rasool, and Chairman Awkaaf Rajpora Mohammad Yaqoob Mir stressed on the crucial role of the local community in curbing the drugs menace and highlighted the collective responsibility in fostering a healthy and drug-free society.

Among others present on the occasion included, Dr. Gazala Gayas Principal GDC Rajpora, Dr. Jawaira BMO Rajpora along with their respective staff.

Meanwhile, a cycle race was organized in district Ganderbal by J&K Sports Council in association with the social voluntary organization, “Voice for Peace and Justice” today during which cyclists passed through the Sambal-Manigam areas of Ganderbal district. The participants were grouped in senior and junior boy’s and girl’s categories besides an open-age category for women.

The prominent cyclist and member of J&K Sports Council, Dr. Mohammad Akbar Khan presided over the function as the chief guest. Khan encouraged all participants to inculcate the habit of cycling among their friends and family which he said will address the problems of the greenhouse effect that the globe is battling at the moment besides helping in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The chief guest distributed cycles, trophies, cash prizes, and certificates among the participants.

The patron of the VPJ, Farooq Ganderbali while speaking on the occasion said that the events like this will boost the morale of the cycle enthusiasts in the district and assured to provide athletes from the Ganderbal district have better opportunities in their respective sports fields in the future too.

During the event, cyclists covered a distance of 5 km from Lar to Sher-i-Kashmir Park along the Manigam bypass and cherished the first-of-its-kind experience.

The cyclists bagging the first positions in their respective categories were awarded cycles, trophies, and certificates which included Farah Ahad in girl’s senior, Soliha Zahoor in girl’s junior, Waheed Hussain in boy’s senior, and Jehangir Ahmad in boy’s junior categories respectively and participants settling at second and third position in all the categories were awarded cash prizes along with trophies and certificates.

The aim of organizing a cycling event was to make the public aware of the G-20 summit besides advocating for a healthy lifestyle and playing an important role in safeguarding the environment.

In the meantime, the closing ceremony of the 12th Inter School J&K Taekwondo Championships was held at Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha Parade Jammu yesterday. The event was organized by J&K Taekwondo Association under the aegis of the Taekwondo Federation of India in association with J&K Sports Council.

The championship was kept open for all and it witnessed massive participation of students and more than 300 students were part of the championship.

The medalists of the event were selected to represent J&K in the upcoming LG Cup All India Club’s Taekwondo Championship-2023.

The member of J&K Sports Council, Ranjeet Kalra was the chief guest on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion the chief guest assured the players of all possible support from the Sports Council.

Sports events spreading the awareness about G-20 summit, anti-drug campaigns, and advocating for a healthy lifestyle were in progress in other districts when the report was being filed.
