Baramulla: A man from Sopore, Ghulam Mohiddin War, has been sentenced to six months of simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 8 Lakh by the Chief Judicial Magistrate Ist Class Sopore in a cheque bounce case.

According to the prosecution, Ghulam Mohiddin War son of Hayaat War Of Warpora Sopore had issued a cheque worth Rs 4 Lakh to a local businessman as payment for goods purchased from him. However, when the businessman tried to encash the cheque, it bounced due to insufficient funds in War’s account.

The businessman then filed a complaint against War under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. The case was registered at the local police station and after a thorough investigation, it was found that War had intentionally issued the cheque with the knowledge that it would bounce due to lack of funds.

After examining the evidence, the Chief Judicial Magistrate Ist Class Sopore found War guilty of the offence and sentenced him to six months of simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 8 Lakh. This decision has been widely welcomed by local businessmen and traders who face cheque bounce cases frequently due to non-payment by their clients.

The judiciary has been taking a stern stance against such offenders, and the government has established special courts for speedy disposal of cheque bounce cases. It is important to note that cheque bounce cases have been on the rise in Kashmir valley, and this decision sends a strong message to those who engage in such illegal activities.
