Around 48 of these bikers have so far been apprehended, and 300 more have been spotted across Kashmir via social media. The public has been urged to record the lawbreakers on camera and report them to the police so that appropriate legal action is taken against them.

Talking to ‘Kashmir Images’, SSP Traffic, Syed Muzaffar Ahmad Shah said the children, who feel immense pleasure in doing dangerous stunts on roads will continue to endanger their own and others’ lives unless their parents wake up to the problem.

“After all they are children and we cannot be harsh to them, we play our part and do everything to keep them away from these lethal acts, either by taking them into preventive detention or seizing their vehicles; but parents have a much bigger in restraining these youngsters,” the SSP said.

He said the authorities usually release these children after necessary counseling so that their future is not affected, “but that doesn’t mean our endeavor in this direction will slow down or such activities will be overlooked.”

Regarding a few youth who were detained and their vehicles seized at Dal Lake a few days ago, the SSP said they have to appear before the Magistrate as their indulgence is not unacceptable under law.

“We have so far detained 48 youth for stunt riding, while 300 others have been identified through social media. These acts are common across the Valley, including in Srinagar. Since the process of identification is ongoing at the moment, those found doing such acts will really find no place to hide in, so I again request parents to keep an eye on their children before it’s too late,” he added.

On Eid, the SSP said not so many bikes were seized, but the youngsters who were caught red-handed for different violations, were properly counseled and subsequently released with a warning to their parents to restrain their wards.
