SRINAGAR: Commissioner Secretary, Science and Technology, Saurabh Bhagat, today inspected ongoing construction works being executed on the upcoming Sub Regional Science Centre at Lal Mandi, Srinagar.

Pertinently, JK Science, Technology and Innovation Council, Department of Science and Technology, is establishing Sub Regional Science Centre at Lal Mandi, Srinagar, in collaboration with the National Council for Science Museums (NCSM), Union Ministry of Culture, with an estimated cost of Rs 20.00 crore.

The main objective of the Centre is to provide an activity-based learning environment to inculcate a spirit of inquisitiveness, foster creative talent and create a scientific temper in the community as a whole. The Centre is categorized by its two channels of communication, exhibits and activities.

Saurabh Bhagat inspected the site of the Centre and took stock of construction work at the site.

Officers from R&B Department including Chief Engineer, R&B, Srinagar, Superintendent Engineer, Executive Engineer, officers from Revenue Department including Sub District Magistrate and Tehsildar, officers from JK Science, Technology and Innovation Council including Additional Director, Joint Director, and Executive Engineer were also present on the occasion.

Commissioner Secretary issued on-spot instructions to Chief Engineer, R&B for the completion of the ambitious project before March 2024. He also directed for starting of construction work on the establishment of the Information Dissemination Centre which has already been approved at a total cost of Rs 3.00 crore. The Information Dissemination Centre will provide incubation facilities for budding innovators of the UT besides providing boarding and lodging facilities for researchers and innovators.

He also emphasized upon the concerned officers for the development of an Exhibition Stall at the site to facilitate JKST&IC for holding exhibitions and related events.

Chief Engineer, R&B, briefed the Commissioner Secretary about various parameters of the upcoming Science Centre.
