Srinagar: Police have booked a notorious drug peddler under PSA in Budgam, while four others were arrested in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said Monday.

A “notorious” drug-peddler — Fayaz Ahmed Ganie, son of Late Abdul Ahad Ganie of Hanjibugh Magam, has been booked under PSA after obtaining necessary sanctions from the competent authority. The booked drug-peddler has been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal, Jammu, police said.

It said several cases are registered against Ganie in various police stations of the district and he was involved in promoting the drug trade by supplying drugs to the local youth of Budgam.

Police also informed that at Chenabal Pattan, a load carrier (JK01N-8052) was intercepted and its search yielded 5 kgs of poppy straw-like substance. The driver of the vehicle identified as Aadil Ahmad Budha, son of Mohammad Shafi Budha of Sher Colony Sopore was arrested and the vehicle seized.

Near the R&B office Baramulla, police intercepted three suspicious women and recovered 200 grams of cannabis-like substance from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to the police station where they remain in custody.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated.

We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112.  People are requested to cooperate with the police in curbing the menace of drugs in society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law.
