Director NIT Srinagar was presiding over the 4th quarterly meeting of OLIC of 2022-23 session to review the progress report of Rajbhasha on the campus.

He appreciated the effort made by the Rajbhasha Cell and departmental coordinators in increasing the use of the official language, Hindi, in official work from almost 0.6% to 25% and termed it as a positive trend.

Prof. Sehgal emphasized on increasing the number of Hindi books and getting annual and monthly subscriptions to Hindi magazines and newspapers. He also directed the Rajbhasha cell to submit the names and possible costs of Hindi books, magazines, and newspapers.

On the occasion, Registrar NIT Srinagar, Prof Syed Kaiser Bukhari said all directions from the Official Language Implementation Committee (OLIC) are being followed in letter and spirit on the campus.

“The important circulars and orders from the Institute are issued in the bilingual mode so that Rajbhasha implementation target is achieved,” he said, NIT Srinagar has achieved a lot and more will be achieved in the future also.

The meeting was attended by Hindi Officer Dr. R P Shukla (Assistant Professor, Civil Engg) and all faculty coordinators of Rajbhasha Cell.

During the meeting, OLIC also approved organizing two separate five-day workshop/training sessions for teaching and ministerial staff. Some institute faculty members will also be nominated for workshops/training sessions in Delhi.

OLIC and Rajbhasha Cell suggested various names for the annual Hindi magazine of the institute. OLIC unanimously entrusted the responsibility of selecting the name of the Hindi magazine to Rajbhasha. It was unanimously decided that the institute would provide financial assistance for the publication of the magazine.

It was also discussed that training sessions will be arranged for some officers of the Institute as per the rule of the Dept. of official languages MHA in which they will be given basic knowledge of the Hindi language, so they can read and write the language.

The work will be completed under the direction of Mohammad Iqbal Dar who is the Supervisor of Hindi Teaching; Rajbhasha Cell. Various efforts will be made to make the NIT Srinagar’s website fully bilingual for which a web designer will be appointed.
