Srinagar: Three drug-peddlers have been arrested and contraband substances recovered from their possession, police informed Sunday.

A checkpoint established at Beighpora- Gulzarpora crossing in Awantipora, a car (JK13A-8760) driven by one Arif Ahmad Dar, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Dar of Renzipora Awantipora was stooped and during checking, 11 kgs of grinded poppy straw concealed in a nylon bag was recovered from it, following which Dar was arrested and vehicle seized, police said.

In Budgam, a vehicle (PB01-9331) with two persons onboard was stopped and 1.2 kgs of poppy straw and 40 grams of cannabis powder recovered from it. Nadeem Ahmad Ganai, son of Abdul Rehman Ganai of Sonpah Beerwah, and Shabir Ahmad Mir, son of Gh Rasool Mir of Waragam Beerwah travelling in the said vehicle were arrested and the vehicle seized.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations in both these instances and further investigations initiated, police informed.
