Srinagar: Three drug peddlers were arrested in Handwara, Sopore and Ganderbal and contraband substances were recovered from their possession, police informed Saturday.

In Handwara, 95 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from the possession of Zahoor Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Khaliq of Waskura Handwara. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station, police said.

In Sopore, 15 grams of brown sugar-like substance was recovered from Muzaffar Ahmad Marazi alias Muzz Marazi, son of Muhammad Akbar, resident of Sofi Hamam Sopore, who was riding the scooty (JK16-3533). He has been arrested and shifted to police station

In Ganderbal, at Bagoorampora Saloora, one Showkat Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, resident of Saloora Ganderbal was arrested after 18 strips of SpasmoProxyvon tablets were recovered from his possession.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations in all these instances and further investigations have been initiated, police said.

Police also informed that they have booked a notorious drug peddler under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining necessary sanctions from the authorities in Baramulla.

The drug-smuggler Basharat Rajab Dar, son of Mohammad Rajab Dar of Sheeri, Baramulla has been booked under PIT-NDPS Act of 1988 after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent Authority. The booked drug peddler has been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jail, Jammu.
