“The Department of General Surgery at GMC Baramulla made a significant breakthrough in the field of colorectal cancer surgery as it is an advanced minimal access procedure which is only performed in a few tertiary care hospitals in J&K, making this a noteworthy achievement for the department,” he informed.

Dr. Shakeeb further said, “We have already started operating on stomach and breast cancers. Operating on a rectal cancer is technically and logistically challenging but with the support of our administration we have been able to achieve this feat.”

“The patient is absolutely fine and recovering well in the postoperative period, and the expenses of the surgery were covered under PMJAY,” Dr. Shakeeb said.

The series of successful surgeries have been hailed as a major accomplishment for the institution and has been attributed to the efforts of the institution’s Principal, Dr. Professor Ruby Reshi, and Medical Superintendent Associated Hospital GMC Baramulla Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi.

Dr. Reshi’s leadership and guidance have been instrumental in helping the institution achieve new heights.

“Despite the limitations faced by an institution in its infancy, the Department of General Surgery is making all efforts to offer regular onco surgery services to the public. The department has a dedicated Minimal Access unit and has made significant strides towards making advanced laparoscopic procedures available to the public of District Baramulla,” said Principal GMC Dr. Professor Ruby Reshi.

“This is a significant milestone for GMC Baramulla and we are proud of our medical teams for their dedication and expertise in successfully conducting this surgery,” said Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, adding, “the success of this surgery has opened up new avenues for the institution and has given hope to patients suffering from similar conditions.”

Dr. Parvaiz said that GMC Baramulla is now looking forward to achieving even greater success in the field of medicine.
