Market checking conducted in Baramulla

BARAMULLA, MAY 23: Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Farooq Ahmad Baba, accompanied by officers from Revenue, FCSCA, Metrology, Food Safety, Municipal Council and Police departments today conducted market checking at various areas.

The market checking was aimed at ensuring the quality and price control and to keep vigil on erring traders.

During the inspection, the checking team realized fine to the tune of Rs. 11,700 from various shopkeepers for violating legal regulations. Some 65 kilograms of contaminated vegetables and spices were also destroyed by the team on the occasion.

Meanwhile, an anti-encroachment drive was also launched at various areas here during which several footpaths were cleared and were shifted to other places for ensuring hassle-free movement of commuters. The team also seized a sizeable amount of polythene from some shopkeepers on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the ADC said that such drives will be conducted on routine basis so that quality of commodities is ensured. He also urged traders not to violate the rules and asked them to display rate-lists at their respective trade centers. He also warned the vendors against encroaching footpaths, failing which strict action as per the law shall be taken against the violators.
