No end to acute hardships faced by people: Tanvir Sadiq

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Chief Spokesperson and In Charge Constituency Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq on Monday lamented the government on magnifying inequality and injustice saying there is no end to hardships faced by people of Kashmir.

Addressing a one-day party convention in Hazratbal (Zadibal constituency), Tanvir said that the last few years have been marked by abandoned flagship programmes, broken promises, and chaotic decision-making in crucial areas like urban Development.

“Haphazard construction works across Srinagar lays bare the utter absence of coordination between various govt agencies. The entire city has been defaced. Choked roads, regular traffic jams, and partial road closures have crippled the city. Commuters, office goers, traders, and students continue to remain at the receiving end of it. Ideally, the works should have been carried out in phases and under one umbrella to cause minimum inconvenience to people. Execution of works by multiple agencies like SMC, ERA, LCMA, drainage department, and National Buildings Construction Corporation all at the same time has adversely affected the daily lives of people,” he said.

He further said that the Omar Abdullah-led government had steamrolled efforts to revive the handicrafts and showcase them to the world but the successive governments post-2015 failed to keep up with the good work. “It is increasingly becoming hard for our artisans to hold up against the hardships. Wages are falling. Dwindling numbers of customers and profits are pushing many to take up other jobs. There is no respite from the banks. Instead of providing relief, they are being asked to repay the loan as well as interest,” he said.

Lamenting the curtailment of ration at the FCCI depots, he said consumers are being troubled on one pretext or another. “It makes no sense to curtail ration at a time when we people have been suffering immensely due to increased water and power tariffs, soaring inflation, and unemployment. Neither there is kerosene, nor flour. There is no sugar and now the additional ration has been stopped as well. The current entitlement of ration quota is not sufficient for any family. Government can’t be so insensitive towards its own people,” he added.

Questioning the approach of the Jammu and Kashmir administrations towards the problem of unemployment, Tanvir said, “All the claims on the creation of employment avenues have fallen flat. The situation on the ground runs contrary to the claims of the government. The miseries of daily wagers, contractual, and need-based employees is seeing no end. There is no recruitment that doesn’t end up in a scandal.”

If NC is voted to power, he said all the anti-people policies will be revoked. “NC is an all-weather friend of people. Providing administrative comfort to the poor will remain high on the party’s agenda,” he added.
