Deptt of Journalism and Media Studies JU holds discussion on PR

Jammu: As part of an interactive session series, the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu, organized a discussion on “Public Relations Strategies, Digital Landscape, and Audiences” here today.

On this occasion, Monisa Qadiri, Senior Assistant Prof and former Head, Journalism, and Mass Communication, Islamic University of Science & Technology, Awantipora, Pulwama, briefed the media students on Public Relations, its symbiotic relationship with media and career prospects in the field of Public Relations in the digital era.

She said that it is very important for budding journalists to connect with different people in their surroundings and that Public Relations involves consistent effort in order to develop and maintain good relations with its various publics. She explained various tools of PR to the media students and emphasized on reading good literature to write well which creates an impact on society. 

She urged the media students to not limit themselves to books but also to connect with people and society at large in order to be effective communicators. “Constructive criticism helps one to grow in the opted fields of journalism consistently,” she added.

Presiding over the program, Prof Shyam Narayan Lal, Coordinator, Journalism, and Media Studies, shared his views and experiences with students. He encouraged them to be successful reporters in the future. 

Dr. Garima Gupta, Incharge Head, Journalism, and Media Studies shared the progress made by media students in covering daily events report of the ongoing 36th Inter-University North Zone Youth Festival (Antarnaad) and their contribution to the newsletter which is being published in a daily basis.

Earlier, introducing the topic in discussion, Dr. Ravia Gupta encouraged the students to keep moving forward and face challenges head-on. Dr. Pardeep Singh Bali shared his views on women’s empowerment and how women are coming forward and taking up challenges in the field of journalism. Students were motivated by the interaction and were encouraged to inquire and ask questions. 

The vote of thanks was presented by Kumerjit Chajgotra with a concluding remark that this interaction would help the students to get an insight into the field of Public Relations and Journalism. 

The department of Journalism and Media Studies, JU, is actively committed to providing practical exposure to the students by regularly organizing such interactive sessions from academia and industry experts. This will help the media students to gain opportunities both locally and nationally.
