Ski patrol team traces missing Norwegian snowboarder

Baramulla: The ski patrol team of the Jammu Kashmir Tourism Department traced a missing Norwegian snowboarder who had gone missing today while snowboarding in the backcountry area of Mount Affarvat Gulmarg.

The snowboarder, identified as Oeyvind Amot from Norway, was stuck in the Khar Nallah forests of Drung.

“We received information about the missing snowboarder in the evening through one local service provider and our team rushed to the spot with some local guides and traced and rescued him,” said one of the ski patrollers.

“He was snowboarding alone without a local guide and he lost way while coming down from the mountain,” the ski patroller added.

Meanwhile, according to a press release issued by the Kashmir Zone Police Media Centre, “Police in Baramulla have rescued a foreign tourist namely Oeyvind Aamot of Norway, who arrived in the morning at Gulmarg and went skiing, while on return he lost his track and got stuck in Khar Nallah forests of Drung.”

“On receipt of this information, two police rescue teams of PS Gulmarg and the Tourism Department were immediately formed who followed two tracks around the forest area and finally reached the location of the foreign skier who was rescued from the forest area of Drung and was brought back to Gulmarg safely,” reads the press release.

“Meanwhile, the foreign tourist has expressed his gratitude to the police for their timely assistance. Moreover, SSP Baramulla Shri Amod Ashok Nagpure-IPS has appreciated the rescue teams of the Police and Tourism Department and announced a cash reward in their favor,” it added.
