LG Cup Ice Hockey C’ship: LSRC beat ITBP in penalty shootout

Leh: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, RK Mathur, today attended the men’s final match of the 3rd LG Cup Ice Hockey Championship between Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Ladakh Scouts Regimental Center (LSRC) at NDS Ice Hockey Stadium.

LSRC beat ITBP in the penalty shootout after the match ended in a 2-2 draw at the end of regulation time. The event was jointly organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) and Ladakh Winter Sports Club, Leh. 26 teams, including 17 men’s and 9 women’s from Leh and Kargil, took part in the championship. Earlier, Ladakh Women Ice Hockey Federation (LWIHF) defeated Lalok in the women’s final.

LG Mathur informed about various initiatives being taken by the Administration along with both the Hill Councils and PRIs to develop sports infrastructure in schools, High Altitude Training Institutes for athletes and sportspersons from Ladakh, and the overall development of sports infrastructure in Ladakh. He also shared about efforts being made to complete the roofing and mechanic chilling plant project at Leh.

LG Mathur stated that Ladakh Winter Sports Academy is being developed in Ladakh and various sports equipment are being provided for all the sports disciplines. He also stated that Khelo India Centres are also being developed in Ladakh. He informed that 27 sports associations have been registered by the Department of Youth Services and Sports to date.

LG Mathur informed that Sports Councils would soon be developed in Ladakh. He stated that these initiatives would improve funds for the development of various sports in Ladakh. He appreciated ITBP, LSRC and Ladakh Winter Sports Club for their efforts to promote winter sports in Ladakh. He also informed about various coaching programmes to be organised by UT Administration with help from Eicher Group to promote ice hockey in the region.

Earlier, Secretary, YSS, Ravinder Kumar welcomed the guests. Speed skating competitions were also organised for various age groups.

Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson; Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Stanzin Chosphel; Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Mehboob Ali Khan; Secretary, YSS, Ravinder Kumar; Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Shrikant Suse; SP Leh, PD Nitya; officials from ITBP, LSRC and Head of Departments (HoDs) were present in the event.
