The LG was briefed on the action taken to address the demands pertaining to security, installation of solar lighting and heating, dedicated water connection for the temple, construction of waste disposal unit and development of temple complex.

The LG took on the spot appraisal from the concerned departments and directed for speedy implementation of related projects.

Pandurang K Pole, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Mohammad Aijaz, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar; Athar Aamir Khan, Commissioner SMC; Rakesh Balwal, SSP Srinagar; Chief Engineers of concerned departments, and other senior officials were also present.

Meanwhile, Sinha made it clear that nobody except the “influential people who have misused their positions and violated laws by occupying government land” will be targeted during the ongoing drive against the “encroachers”.

He said the common masses and poor people will not be touched.

Talking to the media after paying obeisance at ancient Mata Zeashta Devi Temple here, Sinha said the administration will safeguards the rights of the poor people of Jammu and Kashmir, as it has always been concerned about the interests of the common masses.

“Common man and poor people won’t be touched by the administration; the government is, in fact, concerned about safeguarding the interests of poor people,” he said.

Sinha said there were directions from the courts to retrieve state land from the encroachers.

“I have made it amply clear, and would like to reiterate my words that nobody except influential people who have misused their official positions and violated laws by occupying state land will be touched,” the LG said.

On January 09, the J&K government directed all deputy commissioners to ensure 100 percent removal of encroachments from State land by January 31, 2023.

To a question about holding of Assembly polls in Jammu & Kashmir, Sinha said the Election Commission of India has made a statement on the issue.

On Wednesday, the Chief Election Commissioner said that polls in Jammu and Kashmir are due and would be held after taking into account weather conditions, security scenario and other factors.
