Fire destroys five residential houses in old town Bla

Baramulla: At least five families were rendered homeless after five residential houses were completely damaged and goods worth crores of rupees got reduced to ashes by a devastating fire which broke out in Mir Shab locality in the old town in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday.

Witnesses said that a fire broke out in a double-story residential house of Abdul Majeed Bhat which spread to nearby houses in a jiffy in which at least three residential houses were completely gutted and two-three other houses were partially destroyed leaving five families homeless.

The victims said that they lost everything and have no other source of income. They appealed to Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha and Deputy Commissioner Baramulla for immediate relief and rehabilitation.

“We have suffered massive damage as all goods and belongings were destroyed and property worth crores was reduced to rubble,” said Abdul Majid Bhat who also lost his house to the fire.

The victims were identified as Abdul Majid Bhat, Tariq Ahmad Shiekh, Ali Mohammad Akoon, Rayees Ahmad Gojri, and Reyees Ahmad Shala.

The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained. The locals said that the cause of the fire was not known as it spread fast leaving no time to salvage the belongings which were reduced to ashes.
