Srinagar, May 18:  Governor N.N. Vohra, who is Chancellor of the University of Kashmir, University of Jammu, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology- Kashmir and Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology- Jammu, has authorized revision of salary and pension of faculty members and non-teaching employees of the State Universities with effect from 1-1-2016, as per the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission.

The proposal was submitted to the Governor after obtaining the concurrence of the Chief Minister, who is also the Pro-Chancellor of the State Universities, an official press release informed.

It said the additional annual financial implication of this decision is estimated at Rs 130 crore and the arrears for the period 1-1-2016 to 31-3-2018work out to around Rs 200 crore, which shall be paid in cash to the employees in three equal yearly installments, on 1-1-2019, 1-1-2020 and 1-1-2021. However, the arrears of the pensioners shall be paid as per the roadmap approved by the State government, it said.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir government today issued formal notification for remission of stamp duty on land and estate to be purchased in the name of the female member of the family in the state.

“There shall be 100 percent remission of stamp duty leviable on land or estate, on its purchase in the name of a female member of the family,” a notification issued by Principal Secretary Finance, Navin Kumar Choudhary, said.

The Finance Department issued two more orders by virtue of which the stamp duty for the urban areas has been slashed from 7 percent to 5 percent and for the rural areas from 5 percent to 3 percent.

The decision to waive off stamp duty on the properties owned by the women was taken by the state Cabinet last week and it was widely hailed as a progressive measure by various sections of the society.
