Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Monday expressed concern over the death of two children due to the sudden spurt in the cases of Hepatitis-A in Tarka Tachloo village of block Yaripora in South Kashmir’s district Kulgam.

In a statement Party’s State Spokesperson and In Charge Constituency Kulgam Imran Nabi Dar has expressed profound shock and grief over the deaths due to the outbreak of the disease.

Lamenting the district administration for its failure to ensure clean drinking water in most areas of Kulgam, he said that people’s lives are being played with. “Water received by people in the affected village is not fit for drinking and the concerned department despite being repeatedly approached by the locals looked the other way.”

“It is the second death in the last seven days; there are more infected people who are receiving treatment at GMC, Anantnag. Earlier, a five-year-old girl, Maira Gulzar died of hepatitis A, after battling for ten days in the JVC hospital at Srinagar. Another eight-year-old Afnan Altaf died taking the toll to two,” he said.

Demanding an independent probe into the incident, Imran said that the responsibility has to be fixed.

While expressing solidarity with the bereaved families, he prayed for peace to the departed souls in the highest echelons of Jannat. He also impressed upon the administration to ensure the best medical treatment for the affected.
