Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Tuesday said that the “worst impact of the myopic policies of the incumbent administration has widened the divide between the rich and the poor across J&K”.

This, according to the NC spokesperson, was stated by the party’s women’s wing President Shameema Firdous in the provincial meeting of the wing here at the party headquarters Nawa-e-Subha, Srinagar. Provincial president Er Sabiya Qadri, and District Presidents of the Women’s wing were present at the meeting.

Holding the incumbent administration responsible for price rise, scathing unemployment, administrative inertia, and development deficit, Party’s state women’s wing president Shameema Firdous said, “Government is busy swelling its coffers, but when it comes to passing on the benefits to poor people, it sidesteps its responsibility. Despite charging hefty amounts from consumers, the rampant erratic power supply and unscheduled cuts are taking a toll on people during the ongoing winter season. The administration is further deepening the troubles of people by providing inferior-quality of rice and wheat at FCSCA ration Ghats. There are instances where subsidized rations are being sold to BPL families at exorbitant rates at various places across Kashmir. There is no accountability on the ground.”

She further added, “People are yearning for administrative comfort but the same is being denied to them. It was said that the benefits of democracy will flow to Kashmir after 2019 but that didn’t happen in the last four years. On the contrary, the region has been consigned to bureaucratic upmanship.”

Sabiya Qadri in her address said that the people are being denied their constitutional right to elect a popular government. “Who will provide much-needed administrative comfort to them and pull them back from the deep morass? While the citizens in the rest of the country enjoy their democratic right to elect their own governments, the people of J&K have been denied their constitutional right to elect a popular government for 4 years now. Apprehensions are growing in the minds of the people that GoI is not serious about returning democracy to J&K and allowing the people to choose their own representatives. outsourcing the administration has further compounded the issues faced by our people,” she said.
