Police arrests 2 burglars in Baramulla

Srinagar: Police in Baramulla Monday claimed to have arrested two burglars and recovered stolen property worth lakhs from their possession.

In a press release, police spokesperson said that investigating multiple cases of burglary and vehicle theft within the jurisdiction of Police Station Kunzer, police zeroed in on a “known burglar” of Tangmarg area – Abdul Majeed Lone, son of Ghulam Ahmad Lone, resident of Checkthan Chanpora Tangmarg.

In order to evade arrest, the accused person was hiding at different locations, spokesperson said, adding that he was finally nabbed on November 06 from village Gulabdaji

During questioning, the accused confessed that he along with another person identified as Basharat Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat of Gund Hassi Bhat Srinagar are involved in these burglary incidents. Bhat was also arrested.

The duo during questioning disclosed that in order to hide their criminal activities and to dispose-off the stolen property without being exposed, they have opened a workshop at Diver Crossing in Mirgund area of Pattan.

At the workshop, they would disassemble the stolen vehicles into parts and then sell the same as scrap or use it in the vehicles which came to them for repairs.

Police recovered stolen property worth lakhs of rupees which include spare parts, parts of stolen vehicles, copper utensils, engine oil, etc., on their disclosure, spokesperson said, adding the investigation is in progress and further arrests are expected.
