CJM Kathua and J&K High Court had held the main accused in Kathua rape and murder case Shubham Sangra to be a juvenile.

The Apex Court directed that Shubham Sangra be tried as an adult like other accused in the case who have been sentenced to life imprisonment.

While quoting the landmark verdict where the Apex Court held that “a person who behaves like an adult knowing fully well the consequences of his/her act should be treated as an adult,” Bukhari in a statement issued here said that this judgment will be instrumental for subordinate courts to deal with such heinous and brutal cases in a befitting manner.

He further said that this judgment will also go a long way in reposing the faith of the people in rule of law and the victim’s family would ultimately get justice.

It is pertinent to mention that Bukhari was Law and Justice Minister when this case was shifted to Pathankot.
