Srinagar: Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, is organizing a three-day Kashmir Expo ‘Start-Ups for Livelihood’ at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) here from Wednesday.

The event is aimed to provide an opportunity and financial assistance to the existing and aspiring start-ups so that they are able to start their own business enterprise and become job providers rather than those looking for jobs, an official press release said.

Addressing a news conference here in this regard, Dr Anita Gupta, Head of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Ministry of Science and Technology, said the Kashmir Expo is first of its kind event to be organized in Kashmir to encourage the existing and aspiring start-ups who would showcase their products, technology, and services.

She said the event would not only help existing entrepreneurs to showcase their talent in different fields including Kashmir arts, but also encourage aspiring ones to set up their own ventures. She also said the start-ups would have an opportunity to display their products during the three-day event.

Dr Gupta said that about 50 start-ups who have been selected from various domains will be participating in the event. “Young minds create start-ups while Jammu and Kashmir has a good policy in place as the government is providing all assistance to the aspiring and existing entrepreneurs who wish to become job-providers and not job-seekers,” she added.

Dr Vipin Kumar, Director Innovation Foundation India, on the occasion said students from various educational institutions have also been invited to attend the event at SKICC.

He said Union Minister of State for Prime Minister’s Office and Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh will inaugurate the three-day event on November 09 while Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha will be Chief Guest on the occasion.

“About 55 start-ups from across the country are participating in this start-up exhibition. In this three-day exhibition, youth who have started with innovation in various fields will also come to display their products, technology, and services,” said Dr. Kumar.

He said Jammu and Kashmir is a promising place for start-ups having a lot of potential and excitement. “People from grassroots level will display their products during the event. The Government of India has been supporting young minds to create their own ventures.”
