People yearning for administrative comfort: Sakina
FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference State Secretary Sakina Itoo on Sunday said the incumbent administration has miserably failed to address peoples’ issues, particularly of district Kulgam which has fallen off the development radar.

Addressing a worker’s convention at Humpathar in block DK Marg, Sakina said that DK Marg is endowed with natural meadows and mountains with immense tourism but the successive governments post-2015 have failed to tap this potential to uplift the economic growth and development in the region.

“Panchan Pathri in DK Marg, with its open lush grounds serves as an idyllic picnic spot for those looking for leisure travel and offers a perfect skiing opportunity during winters. Unfortunately, nothing substantial is being done to tap this potential. On our request, MP Masoodi had also written to the concerned authorities to unlock the tourism potential of the region but the long pending demand continues to remain unmet,” she said.

Strife-torn Kulgam in general and DK Marg, Sakina said, needs special attention from the administration. “People are hankering for administrative comfort. Unfortunately, none is coming their way. We only keep hearing that so and so a number of works have been executed under various central government flagship schemes like JJM, PMGSY, MGNREGA, PMAY Urban and Rural, NHM, MDM, AIBP, SAMAGRA, NRLM, and ICDS but none of it is visible on the ground. It is only confined to files and photo ops. The ground situation is completely different. People in DK Marg are suffering from unemployment, development deficit, administration inertia, paucity of public utility services and basic civic amenities all at the same time.”

She further added, “The majority of south Kashmir districts are facing immense hardships because of the faulty movement of fruit-laden trucks. Fruit growers in your district are complaining about the horticulture-related facilities. But the government has turned blind eye to these lingering issues.”

There is a dearth of faculty, and staff in local PHCs, schools, and colleges, she said adding, “The last few years, the colleges in the Kulgam district have achieved remarkable triumphs in the down sliding of academics and other associated fields like curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities. The administration has failed to explore and nourish the inherent creative qualities of the students, and publications are being issued annually. The situation of the health services is no better.”
