KU VC chairs GATI project meet, reviews progress on deliverables

Srinagar: Vice-Chancellor University of Kashmir Prof Nilofer chaired a high-level meeting to further strategize the smooth implementation of the Gender Advancement for Transforming Institutions (GATI) pilot programme in the University.

Addressing Gender Self-Assessment Team (GSAT) members under the GATI programme launched by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, Prof Nilofer said she is keen to see the important deliverables of the GATI programme, which aims to promote gender equity in science and technology, being achieved within the set timelines. She assured her administration’s all necessary support in this endeavour.

Impressing upon the GSAT members to work in close coordination, Prof Nilofer directed for constitution of GATI sub-committees and taking other relevant measures on priority to realise the goals of the important project in Kashmir University.

The nodal officer at KU for GATI Pilot Programme, Dr Rabia Hamid, earlier highlighted the aims and objectives of the programme and also presented its work progress in the University.

Dr Rabia briefed the Vice-Chancellor about various activities undertaken under the programme since last year and also highlighted further requirements and measures to be taken for its smooth implementation.

Dean Research KU Prof Irshad A Nawchoo also spoke about the programme and its objectives, even as many GSAT members also put forth their valuable suggestions on taking the project forward in a hassle-free manner.

Notably, KU is one of the pilot institutions among 30 premier national institutions of higher education and research, selected by DST which is partnering with The British Council, for this countrywide programme. GSAT is an apex body under the project mandated with devising strategies and action plans for the improvement of gender climate in the University, especially for women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Mathematics (STEMM) disciplines.

The meeting was attended by GSAT members including Prof Shamim A Shah, Prof M Farooq Mir, Prof Anwar Hassan, Prof Nahida Tabassum, Prof Fayaz A Bhat, Prof Tabassum Firdous, Dr Salima Jan, Dr Shazia Manzoor, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad Khanday, Dr Shaida Andrabi, Dr Shafquat Majeed, Dr Asima Jan, besides research scholars and students from various departments of the University.
