Baramulla: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is visiting Baramulla Wednesday to address a mega rally at Showkat Ali Stadium here for which unprecedented security measures have been put in place across the north Kashmir district.

With deployment of additional troops on Srinagar-Uri highway, additional checkpoints have been set up with police and paramilitary forces deployed there for checking and frisking of vehicles entering or leaving the town.

“All roads around the venue have been put under CCTV camera surveillance while drones are being used for aerial vigil,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Rayees Ahmad Bhat.

“Day and night patrolling is being carried out while aerial surveillance through drones is also being carried out to ensure a close watch on everything,” he added.

Traffic police authorities have also issued an advisory restricting the vehicular movement on highway from Khanpora Baramulla to Sangrama as the venue falls on highway at Khawajabagh Baramulla.

“In view of public rally at Showkat Ali Stadium Baramulla on October 05, 2022, motorists who are intending to travel from Srinagar to Baramulla and Uri and vice-versa are advised to adopt designated routes to reach their destinations on said date,” reads an advisory issued by Traffic Police, Rural Kashmir.

It further said that the vehicles plying from Srinagar to Baramulla and Uri shall opt for Srinagar – Pattan – Sangrama – Sopore – Fruit Mandi – Ladoora – Azadgunj – Khanpora bridge – Uri route, while vehicles plying from Uri, Baramulla towards Srinagar shall opt for Uri – Khanpora Bridge – Azadgunj – Ladoora – Fruit Mandi – Sopore – Sangrama – Pattan – Srinagar route.

Meanwhile, Railways has issued an order for suspension of railway service from Budgam to Baramulla on the eve of Home minister’s visit to Baramulla.

Earlier on last week, Jammu and Kashmir police chief, Dilbag Singh visited the district and chaired a meeting of civil and police officers to review the security arrangements. The DGP emphasized upon the officers to keep an eye on the activities of suspicious elements who always try to find an opportunity to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere.

On Monday, BJP’s J&K unit president Ravinder Raina had said, “The people from different parts of the valley would participate in the rally and we are expecting a gathering of 30,000 participants from Srinagar, south Kashmir and mostly from Bandipora, Baramulla, Kupwara and other nearby places.”
