Kulgam: A Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) terrorist was killed while an army soldier and two civilians were injured in the ongoing encounter in Batapora village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, police said on Monday, adding that the operation was underway.

An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces on Monday evening, police said.

Security forces launched a cordon operation in Batpora village of Kulgam following information about the presence of terrorists there, a police official said.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter when terrorists opened fire at security forces, who retaliated.

He said that in the ensuing encounter an army soldier and two civilians were injured and they have been shifted to a hospital for treatment.

Police in a tweet informed that one JeM terrorist has been killed and his identification is being ascertained.

“#KulgamEncounterUpdate: 01 #terrorist of proscribed #terror outfit JeM killed. Identification of the killed terrorist being ascertained. #Search going on. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir zone police tweeted.

Earlier, police said that an Army soldier and two civilians were injured in the ongoing encounter, who have been injured and shifted to hospital for treatment.

“#KulgamEncounterUpdate: 01 Army soldier & 02 civilians got injured in the ongoing #encounter. All the 03 injured shifted to hospital for treatment. #Operation going on. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Zone Police had tweeted.
