Baramulla: A six-month-old baby died allegedly due to medical negligence in Associated Hospital Government Medical College Baramulla sparking protests against the errant doctors and other staff.

Talking to media persons, the distressed father of slain baby Yasir Ahmad Beigh of Nowshera Boniyar alleged that due to the sheer negligence of doctors at GMC Baramulla his baby died after they administered Ceftriaxone (antibiotic) injection without a test dose.

“Yesterday morning I brought my baby with fever to the hospital (causality ward). The doctor on duty roared at my wife saying that people needlessly bring their children with minor ailments to the hospital. The baby is fine, the doctor said and wrote nothing on the prescription, before turning us back.

“Late in the evening the baby again got high fever, and we brought him to GMC hospital,” he added.

Beigh said that the doctor on duty was a Junior Resident (JR) Altaf Iqbal who prescribed some medicines and advised me to administer the same for night after seeing his chest X-ray, CBC and UBGS.

“But there was no improvement in my baby’s condition, so we brought him here again in the morning. The same JR was on duty, and he prescribed me some injections; so I took my baby to SNCU to get a cannula fixed,” he informed.

He said he had gone outside the hospital to buy some medicines when the baby was administered Ceftriaxone injection “without test dose”, and that his child Mosia Yasir died within minutes of getting the injection.

“This not a natural death; it is a murder. We want justice, and we will not take the dead body of my baby home…,” agitated father said.

The family staged a strong protest against hospital staff and administration, demanding strict action against those responsible for this “medial negligence”.

Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent GMC Dr. Javid Iqbal and Principal GMC Baramulla, Dr Ruby Reshi told the media that the matter will be looked into and an enquiry team has been constituted to ascertain facts.

They added that whosoever is found involved will be dealt strictly as per the law.
