Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir logged 80 fresh positive cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19)  in the last 24 hours which took the cumulative infection tally to 4,78,495, officials said Wednesday.

They said 70 fresh cases were reported from Kashmir division and 10 from Jammu division.

Providing district-wise breakup for today’s positive cases, the officials informed that in Kashmir division, Budgam reported 25 cases, Srinagar reported 21 cases, Pulwama reported eight cases, Baramulla reported six cases, Kupwara reported five cases, Anantnag reported three cases, and Bandipora reported two.

Similarly in Jammu division, Jammu district reported five cases, Udhampur three cases and Doda and Samba reported one fresh case each today.

Moreover, 121 more COVID-19 patients were discharged from various hospitals, including 99 from Kashmir and 22 from Jammu division, in the last 24 hours after their recuperation. So far cumulatively 4,73,020 infected persons have recovered from the disease and 4,783 have died – 2,433 in Kashmir and 2,350 in Jammu division.

Currently there are 692 active positive cases in J&K – 488 in Kashmir and 204 in Jammu division, officials said.

They also informed that 11,897 doses of COVID vaccine were administered in the last 24 hours across Jammu and Kashmir bringing the cumulative number of doses administered till date to 2,43,26,972.

Active Covid cases in India decline to 50,594

India saw a single day rise of 5,379 coronavirus infections, taking the tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,44,72,241, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Wednesday.

Active Covid cases have declined to 50,594, while the death toll has climbed to  5,28,057 with 27 fatalities, including 11 deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The active cases comprise 0.11 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.70 percent, the health ministry said.

A decline of 1,742 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.67 percent and the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 2 percent, according to the health ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,38,93,590, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 percent.

According to the ministry, 213.91 crore doses of Covid vaccines have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive.

The 16 new fatalities include two each from Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and West Bengal among others.
