  • Mirwaiz not under house arrest
  • Spreading terror under human rights garb will not be tolerated
  • Biggest challenge is to increase revenue generation and double J&K’s GDP

Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha today asserted that the union government under the leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi doesn’t believe in buying peace but in establishing it.

While talking about the security scenario in J&K post- abrogation of Article 370, Sinha, in a detailed interview to BBC Hindi said that there has been perfect synergy among security agencies and 90 per cent target has been achieved.

He said that in coming days, the atmosphere will be created and complete peace will be established.

He said that biggest challenge in front of his administration is that how to increase revenue generation and double Jammu and Kashmir’s GDP.

“We are working on it and are adopting strategies to achieve the target,” he said.

In response to a question regarding house detention of religious and political leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, LG asserted that he was not under house arrest.

“We have neither arrested him nor is he under the house arrest,” Sinha told BBC.

Noting that the father of the Mirwaiz was killed in an unfortunate incident, he said that police was placed around his house for his protection.

“Even in 2019, he was not detained under the PSA. He is neither arrested nor detained. He must decide what he wants to do,” Sinha added.

Commenting on the allegations that human rights activists are being targeted, Sinha said that no one would be allowed to indulge in terror activities under the garb of human rights.

When specifically asked about detained Khuram Parvez, LG said that NIA has investigated the case and filed charge sheet against him and some others in LET conspiracy case.

“If you are working for ISI, identifying targets for terrorists and still claim to be human rights activist, God save us from such activism,” LG said.

On PDP chief, Mehbooba Mufti’s repeated demand that talks should be held with Pakistan to resolve Kashmir issue, Sinha said that there is no need to talk to Pakistan.

“We will talk to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. We will talk to the youth here. There is no need to talk to Pakistan,” LG said.

On developmental front, Lt Governor said that from country’s independence till two years back, there had been private investment of just 14 to 15 thousand crore in Jammu and Kashmir.

“In last one and a half year, we have got proposals worth 56 thousand crores and out of these proposals worth 38 crores have been approved and work has been started on these projects,” he said.

About the targeted killing of Kashmiri Pandits and the fear amongst the community, LG said the terror actions should not be seen through the prism of religion.

“Everybody has suffered here. People from Muslim community have suffered a lot. But the situation is changing. On security front, we will achieve hundred per cent success soon,” he said.
