Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir registered 217 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking the cumulative infection tally in the Union territory to 4,74,272, officials said here.

The Union territory did not report any fresh death due to the coronavirus.

While 204 fresh cases were reported from Kashmir Valley, 13 cases were reported from Jammu division, the officials said.

Providing district-wise breakup for these cases, they informed that in Kashmir division, Baramulla reported 55 cases, Srinagar district reported 54 cases, Anantnag reported 28 cases, Budgam 20 cases, Kupwara reported 19 cases, Kulgam reported 13, Pulwama reported 10 cases, Bandipora reported five cases and Shopian reported one fresh case today.

Similarly in Jammu division, Samba reported six cases, Reasi reported three cases, Jammu district reported two cases, Rajouri and Ramban reported one fresh case each today.

The death toll due to the virus was 4,779 as no fresh death was reported from the Union territory, the officials said. So far the disease has claimed 2,432 lives in Kashmir Valley while 2,347 persons have died in Jammu division.

Currently there are 3,757 active cases of the disease in the Union territory – 3,180 in Kashmir and 577 in Jammu division.

Overall recoveries have reached 4,65,736, the officials said, adding this also includes 614 more COVID-19 patients who were discharged from various hospitals, including 485 from Kashmir division and 129 from Jammu division, in the last 24 hours after their recuperation.

The officials said so far J&K has recorded 51 confirmed cases of mucormycosis, or black fungus.

India logs 8,813 Covid infections in a day; active cases decline to 1,11,252

India’s COVID-19 case tally increased by 8,813 in a day to reach 4,42,77,194, while active infections have declined to 1,11,252, according to the Union Health Ministry data on Tuesday.

The death toll has climbed to  5,27,098 with 29 more fatalities, including one death reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

Active cases declined by 6,256 in a day and now comprise 0.25 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was at 98.56 percent, the health ministry said.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,36,38,844, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 percent.

The daily positivity rate was 4.15 percent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 4.79 percent, according to the health ministry.

It said that 208.31 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far.

The 28 new fatalities include eight from Delhi, six from Punjab, two each from Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttar Pradesh, and one each from Assam, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Odisha, Sikkim and Tripura.
