3 thieves arrested in Srinagar; stolen property recovered

Srinagar: Police in Srinagar have arrested three thieves including a woman and recovered stolen items worth ₹ 6.5 lakhs and cash of ₹ 1,10,500 from their possession.

Giving details, a police spokesman said that on July 27, Police Station Shergarhi received complaint from one Kartik Sardar, son of Sitaram Sardar of Hogli Kolkata West Bengal, working as a goldsmith at Sarai Payeen Srinagar, stating that during the intervening night of July 26-27, some unknown burglars have barged into his jewellery workshop and stolen gold jewellery items.

After registering a case in this regard, the investigation team examined technical evidence and CCTV footages, and identified one accused person — Tahir Ahmad Mir alias 90, son of Sonaullah Mir of Harden Siver Khurhama Lolab Kupwara.

Subsequently, he was arrested within two days and on his confession two more accused persons were also arrested. They have been identified as Jameela alias Jabeena, wife of Tahir Ahmad Mir, and Irshad Hussain Yattoo, son of Muhammad Akbar Yattoo of Sultanpora Pattan, Baramulla.

On their disclosure, all the stolen gold items worth ₹ 6,50,000 and cash amount of  ₹ 1,10,500 was recovered from their possession, police said, adding that the investigation of the case is going on and more recoveries are expected.
