BJP flags off bikers rally from Lal Chowk to mark ‘Kargil Vijay Divas’

SRINAGAR: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday held mega public rally at city center Lal Chowk here as part of Kargil Vijay Divas 2022 celebrations. The rally was organized by BJP youth wing.

Bhartiya Janata Yuwa Morcha (BJYM) flagged off a bikers rally to the Kargil War Memorial in Drass area of the Ladakh Union territory. The rally was flagged off by the party’s national general secretary Tarun Chug and Bangalore South MP and president, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Tejasvi Surya.

The flag-off event near the historic ‘Ghanta Ghar’ (clock tower) in Lal Chowk was held amidst unprecedented security arrangements as the whole area was sealed and security forces, including senior officers, were present in large numbers.

Tarun Chugh who was chief guest on the occasion, flagged off bikers rally that will culminate in Kargil.

A large number of people including men and women attended the rally which according to BJP leaders was held first time after incumbent Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi arrived in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk to unfurl Tricolor as a part of the BJP’s Ekta Yatra under the leadership of Dr Mulrli Manohar Joshi on January 24, 1992.

A police official said about 100 bikes were part of the rally in which members of the BJYM from different parts of the country participated. The rally will culminate at the Kargil War Memorial on Tuesday, on the occasion of Vijay Divas.

Elaborate security arrangements were put in place in and around city center Lal Chowk to avoid any untoward incident during the rally. A senior police official told ‘Kashmir Images’ that a multi-tier security setup was put in place as a part of foolproof security ahead of BJP rally in Lal Chowk.

Barricades were erected to ensure no one without passing through an exhaustive access control system enter the venue. Security personnel were deployed on all roads and were checking motorists and pedestrians without exception.

Authorities had diverted traffic from Maulana Azad Road that witnessed massive jams until the rally culminated and security bandobast was lifted. Most of the shops from Regal Chowk to Court Road were closed till afternoon.

The security forces used drones to keep an eye on the event – for which traffic and public movement was diverted.

The two main schools in the vicinity, Tyndale Biscoe and Mallinson had to shut down due to the security reasons.
