Srinagar, May 09: Police on Wednesday rebutted the news reports suggesting that a special police officer (SPO) was caught pelting stones on tourists in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

Police spokesman, in a statement, said that news is being circulated by some sections of media that a SPO has been handed over to police for throwing stones on tourists in Ganderbal.

“In another news, it has been claimed that four youth have been detained for throwing stones on tourist vehicles,” he said.

“There has been no such stone-pelting incident on tourist vehicles in the past 24 hours. The news of an SPO throwing stones on tourist vehicle is about 1 year old,” spokesman said.

He requested the people not to pay heed to such rumours. “Strict action under law will be taken against those indulging in rumour mongering by District Police Ganderbal,” he warned.
