LG review rescue, relief operation at Amarnath cave

Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level meeting earlier today to review the ongoing rescue and relief operation at Amarnath holy cave.

The meeting attended by GoC 15 Corps, DGP, ACS Home, Special DG CID, ADGP Kashmir, AOC Air force, Principal Secretary to LG, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and senior officials, observed two-minute silence to pay tribute to devotees who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident yesterday, an official press release said.

It said Lt Gen AS Aujla, GoC 15 Corps and Dilbag Singh, DGP briefed the LG about the ongoing rescue efforts at the holy cave. GoC said all the agencies involved in the rescue and relief operation are working in excellent coordination and they are well equipped to clear the debris.

The LG said the effort should be made to clear the debris within the shortest period of time. DGP while briefing the LG about the injured devotees said majority of the injured have already been discharged and few others are being treated at base hospital and Srinagar likely to be discharged within 24 hours.

The LG said teams from Army, CAPFs, NDRF & SDRF are on the ground and doing commendable work.

“I request Yatris to stay put in camps. Administration is providing all facilities for their comfortable stay. We are trying our best to restore the Yatra at the earliest,” LG said.

He also directed the senior officials, deputy commissioners and camp directors to ensure best possible facilities are provided to the pilgrims staying at camps.

Earlier today, the LG visited SKIMS hospital in Srinagar to enquire about the health of pilgrims who were injured in yesterday’s unfortunate incident at Amarnath cave.

The LG met the doctors treating the injured and asked them to provide all possible treatment for their speedy recovery, an official press release said.

It said the LG went around the wards where injured were receiving treatment, and enquired about their well-being.

Prof. Parvaiz A. Koul, Director SKIMS briefed the LG on the health facilities being extended to the injured pilgrims for their treatment.

It was informed that seven pilgrims who were injured during the tragic incident are undergoing treatment at the hospital and are being monitored by senior health staff.

Later, the LG also visited PCR Srinagar where he was briefed about the status of sending the mortal remains of deceased pilgrims to their respective hometowns.

Nitishwar Kumar, Principal Secretary to LG; Mohammad Aijaz, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar and other senior officers of civil and police administration accompanied the LG.
