Kharif crop sown at Hiranagar IB after 19 years

KATHUA: Deputy Commissioner Rahul Pandey along with Director Agriculture Jammu KK Sharma inaugurated the maiden sowing of Mash crop at Zero Line, across the fence on Indo Pak International Border, in Hiranagar sector today. The event was witnessed by a number of farmers along with government officials.

District Administration under its resolve to resume cultivation on the Zero Line land has fixed a target of 200 acres under Mash crop during the Kharif Season 2022.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner assured that the administration would continue with its technical support to the farmers through Agriculture Department, in collaboration with the Border Security Force in ensuring umbrella security, thereby bringing the abandoned land under cultivation.

Director Agriculture congratulated farmers on the restoration of farming on the land earlier abandoned for 19 years. He assured full support of his department with respect to seeds, machinery, fertiliser, and other inputs along with logistics. A special team of officers with a subject matter specialist has been constituted which would look into all problems of the farmers, he added.

Commandant, BSF, Atul Shah also assured full support and security to the farmers in close liaison with Kathua district administration.

On the occasion, Chief Agriculture Officer, Kathua, Sanjeev Rai Gupta assured that the department would also provide consistent incentives and subsidy support on seed, machinery and other inputs.
