J&K records 83 fresh Covid-19 cases

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir reported 83 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, taking the infection tally in the Union territory to 4,55,089, officials said here.

No fresh death due to the infection was reported in the region, they said.

While 59 cases were reported from Jammu division, 24 cases were reported from Kashmir valley, officials said.

Providing district-wise breakup for positive cases for today, the officials said that Jammu district reported 49 cases; Srinagar 19; Samba, Poonch, Udhampur and Baramulla reported  02 cases each; Kathua reported 03 cases and; Rajouri, Budgam, Kulgam and Kupwara reported 01 case each.

The COVID-19 death toll has reached 4,756, they said.

There are 493 active cases of the disease, while the number of recoveries has reached 4,49,840, they said.

The officials added that there are 51 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus).

The officials further said that 10,221 doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the last 24 hours bringing the cumulative number of doses administered across J&K to 2,32,87,05.

Active COVID-19 cases cross one lakh mark in India

India logged over 18,000 new coronavirus infections in a single day after a gap of 130 days, taking the COVID-19 tally to 4,34,52,164, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday.

The active cases crossed the one lakh mark again after 122 days.

A total 18,819 new Covid cases were reported in a span of 24 hours while the death toll climbed to 5,25,116 with 39 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases increased to 1,04,555 comprising 0.24 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.55 per cent, the ministry said.

An increase of 4,953 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.16 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 3.72 per cent, according to the ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to        4,28,22,493, while the case fatality rate was 1.21 per cent.

According to the ministry, 197.61 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive.
