Srinagar, May 05: Main opposition National Conference on Saturday said the PDP-BJP government was unmoved by the pain and misery it had inflicted on the people of the state and had turned a blind eye towards unabated civilian killings.

According to an NC press release issued here, senior party leaders including general secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani, Mubarak Gul, Muhammad Akbar Lone and Showkat Ahmed Mir convened a special meeting to discuss the prevailing worrisome situation in the state.

They said the state was being pushed into a renewed era of turmoil and instability due to the “anti-people and ruthless attitude of the ruling dispensation.”

Sagar while expressing grief over the killing of a young man in Srinagar said “the rhetoric of reconciliation was nothing but the hypocrisy and shamelessness of the PDP-BJP government as the loss of precious lives continued in a political vacuum that was a result of flawed, anti-people policies.

“With every new death, the youth of the valley are being pushed further into the abyss of alienation and hostility and the chief minister remains clueless and unmoved. No political vision exists and the government is being run on a day-to-day basis with survival in power as the only goal,” Sagar said.

Nasir Aslam Wani, according to the press release  expressed serious concern over the prevailing situation in the state and said continued civilian killings had exposed the PDP and also pushed the state back by more than a decade.

“Dividends of peace have been wasted and the current government is in a perpetual mode of fire-fighting against its own abject surrender to the BJP. The idea of the mainstream is being discredited because of PDP’s opportunism and its complete disregard to the situation in the state as well as the sentiments of the people,” Wani said.

The press release said the NC leaders expressed solidarity with the families of the civilians who have lost their lives and suggested that the PDP-BJP government should introspect and acknowledge the grave costs of its “flawed, opportunistic policies”.
