Wetland Division Kashmir conducts cleanliness drive around Hokersar

‘Process of demarcation of Hokersar wetland area in Srinagar starts’

Srinagar: The Department of Wildlife Protection J&K Government, Wetlands Division Kashmir in joint collaboration with stake holding departments, civil society groups, N.G.O’s, Educational institutions  today conducted cleanliness drive of Hokersar while observing “Save Hokersar-Save Srinagar” campaign under the banner “TAWAZUN” which commenced on May 07 and will continue till May 21.

The aim is to launch a comprehensive cleanliness drive in and around Hokersar Wetland Conservation Reserve and to maintain the ecological characteristics of this world famous wetland.

This is also a sequel to the  on spot directions of Worthy Chief Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir during his recent visit to the Hokersar.

Accordingly, a cleanliness drive was conducted in & around Hokersar Wetland Conservation Reserve in which Safai karamcharies of Municipal committees of Srinagar and Budgam Districts, Range Officer, lakes along with his field staff, Students of Amar Singh College/Grand Dubai School/Boys Higher Secondary School Gund-Hassi Bhat, different N.G.O’s, volunteers, Panchayat members, Forest Protection Force personals of K-01/K-03 and representatives of different stake holding departments participated.

Today’s event was kick started by the Principal Govt. Boys Higher Secondary, School Gund-Hassi Bhat. During the drive solid waste of about 5 to 6 trucks of load were collected from Ali Abad Gund Hassi Bhat, Srinagar and Soibugh/Haji Bagh, Budgam and  disposed off properly, which involved mass efforts of 200 persons.

At the end of today’s event, Principal Govt. Degree College Gund-Hassi Bhat, thanked the participants and advocated to maintain cleanliness of the queen of wetlands i.e “Hokersar Wetland Conservation Reserve” which is not only home to millions of migratory birds but also acts as a flood absorb basin.
