Srinagar: Security forces arrested two Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militants from north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday and seized arms and ammunition from their possession, officials said here.
Acting on a tip-off, the security forces set up a mobile check-point at Hanjiveera in the Pattan area of Baramulla in the early hours, the officials said.
“During the searches, two suspects were apprehended and two pistols and two Chinese grenades recovered from their possession,” an official said.
The two arrested militants were identified as Aqib Mohammad Mir and Danish Ahad Dar, both affiliated with the JeM, the officials said.
Police on Tuesday also claimed to have busted a Hizb militant module by arresting three of its associates involved in killing of a Panch in Kulpora area in south Kashmir Kulgam district.
A police spokesperson said that the accused — Nasser Ahmad Wani, son of Bashir Ahmad Wani, resident of Srandoo; Adil Manzoor Rather, son of Manzoor Ahmad Rather, resident of Ashmuji; and Majid Mohammad Rather, son of Late Ghulam Mohammad Rather, resident of Malipora Mirbazar, were arrested for assisting active militant Raja Nadeem Rather, son of Abdul Rehman Rather, resident of Ashmuji in the killing of Panch Mohammad Yaqoob Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar, resident of Kulpora Kulgam on March 02.
Two grenades and a pistol with eight rounds were recovered from their possession, police said. A case under relevant sections of law was registered into the incident at Police Station Kulgam.
During the course of investigation, police spokesman said, it was learnt that Raja was directed by an active militant of Hizb namely Farooq Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Gani Bhat resident of Cheki Desend Yaripora to carry out the killing “at the behest of militant handlers based in Pakistan to target the PRI members of Kulgam.”
As per police, the arrested associates were directed to conduct reccee of the Panch’s presence, arrange transport and provide logistics to execute the militant act.
Police said the said module “is linked with already busted Hizb module involved in the killing of Sarpanch Shabir Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Abdullah Mir of Audoora Kulgam on 11th March this year.”
The investigation of the case is going on and based on the investigation more arrests and recoveries are also expected, spokesman said.
Militants hurl grenade at CRPF bus in Kulgam, no damage done
Militants on Tuesday lobbed a grenade on a bus carrying CRPF personnel in Kulgam district of south Kashmir but there was no damage done, officials said.
The militants hurled the grenade at the CRPF bus at Brazloo in Kulgam, the officials said.
They said the grenade landed and exploded on the roadside and did not cause any damage.
