Srinagar: Militants on Friday evening fired upon two migrant labourers in the Nowgam area on Srinagar outskirts injuring the duo, police said.

The injured labourers, identified as Najamul Islam and Anikul Islam, hailing from West Bengal, were shot at by terrorists in periphery of Srinagar district on Srinagar-Pulwama-Badgam boundary in rural belt Suthsoo, a police spokesman said.

Both have been shifted to a hospital where their condition is reported to be stable, the spokesman said.

He said that the area has been cordoned by the security forces to nab the fleeing militants.

“Terrorists fired upon two outside labourers in #Nowgam area, outskirts of #Srinagar City. Both of them have been shifted to hospital. Area #cordoned off, search going on,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

In another tweet, District Police Srinagar said: “Two outsider Labourers namely Najamul Islam & Anikul Islam hailing from West Bengal shot by terrorists in periphery of Srinagar distt on Srinagar-Pulwama-Badgam boundary in rural belt Suthsoo. Both are in hospital and stable. Operation has been launched to catch the culprits.”
