Srinagar: A grenade was lobbed towards Police Station Budgam on Tuesday evening which exploded outside the gate.

A police official said that today evening around 2115 hrs, terrorists lobbed a grenade towards Police Station Budgam. The grenade exploded outside the gate and no injuries were reported.

“Alert sentry fired upon the terrorists but they manage to escape taking advantage of the darkness,” the official said.

Area has been cordoned for searches and nakas established on escape routes, he added.

Earlier, militants fired upon security personnel guarding members of the Hindu minority community in the Herpora Batagund area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Police sources said that militants fired upon minority guard from a distance, which was retaliated by the security personnel.

In this incident no loss of life or injury was reported.

The area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers, the sources said.

Meanwhile, police along with security forces on Tuesday claimed to have recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in Karnah area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

As per a police spokesman, the arms and ammunition including 10 pistols, 17 pistol magazines, 54 pistol rounds and five grenades was recovered during a search operation at Hajam Mohallah in Tad Karnah.

A case has been registered and investigation started into the matter, police said.
