Hurriyat G stages protest at Hyderpora

Srinagar, May 04: Authorities on Friday barred Hurriyat Chairman Syed Ali Geelani from offering Friday prayers in Masjid Iqra in Lal Chowk, a Hurriyat G spokesman said in a statement issued here.

The spokesman said that Geelani was stopped after he defied house arrest restrictions. The police forces outside his residence did not allow him to venture out to march towards Masjid Iqra.

He said that large contingents of police and CRPF were deployed on main roads leading to the residence of Syed Ali Geelani and no one was allowed to move out of Hurriyat office, said Spokesman.

Lashing at authorities Syed Ali Geelani said that Delhi groomed authorities have unleashed a reign of terror against innocent civilians in state, saying even innocent students are being mercilessly killed, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat G activists on Friday staged protest against continuous house detention of Syed Ali Geelani and the civilian killings in Shopian, Pulwama and Islamabad.

The spokesman said that peaceful protest after congregational Friday prayers was held in Hyderpora Srinagar.

Voicing serious concern over the spree of killings at the hands of Indian troops, Hurriyat general secretary Gh Nabi Sumji   reiterated that the policy of oppression can’t deter people from pursuing the sacred movement.

Demanding immediate halt on innocent killings and arbitrary measures perpetrated by Indian forces, he appealed world human rights organization for their cognizance and impressed to raise their voice and come to the rescue of subjugated people in Kashmir.
