Srinagar/Jammu: Anti Corruption Bureau on Tuesday produced chargesheet against a police sub-inspector in the court of Special Anti-Corruption Judge Srinagar while as the CBI arrested a police inspector on the charge of taking bribe.

ACB said the case was registered against Sub-Inspector Farooq Ahmad Abassi, son of Mohammad Akbar of Boniyar, Baramulla, when during his posting at Police Station Baramaloo he had demanded bribe of Rs 3,000 from the complainant in lieu of returning the documents of his vehicle.

Pertinently, Abassi had been caught by the ACB sleuths red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 3,000 from the complainant.

During investigations, the facts and circumstances together with “cogent evidence” brought on record, established commission of offence under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 as proved against the accused. After receiving sanction for prosecution from the government, the chargesheet of the case was produced before the Court of Special Judge Anti-corruption Judge Srinagar today for judicial determination, ACB said.

The next date of hearing has been fixed on June 06, 2022.

Meanwhile, the CBI on Tuesday arrested a police inspector on the charge of taking bribe from a person to extend favour to him in a land dispute in Poonch district, officials said.

Station House Officer (SHO) of Loran police station Ved Prakash was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000 bribe from the complainant.

The CBI had laid a trap based on a complaint that the SHO had demanded bribe to extend favour to the complainant in the land dispute.

Ved Prakash, a resident of Haripur village of R S Pura tehsil of Jammu district, was arrested and a case was registered against him, officials said.
