Srinagar: The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal today reviewed the functioning of the department, progress on the implementation of the centrally sponsored schemes in a meeting at Agriculture Complex Lalmandi, here.

Addressing the meeting, the Director said that the current climate scenario is a challenge and could have potential impact on various agriculture activities; therefore we have to strategize our field activities and interventions in order to experience the minimum impact of the prevailing climatic conditions.

Iqbal asked the officers to maintain focus on the economic security of the farming community of the region. The cropping system must be in line with climatic conditions, economic sustainability, he added.

He appreciated the efforts of Agriculture Extension Assistants for their commendable role in the implementation of various centrally sponsored schemes and flagship programs on ground. He said there are a number of success stories by these professionally highly trained technocrats in the field that need to be replicated all over the region so that the technology dissemination in an impressive manner could be achieved.

The Director highlighted the importance of  diversification of the agriculture activities like organic cultivation, mushroom production, apiculture, introduction of exotic varieties, new fodder crop varieties etc.

He reiterated that every single penny allocated under different central schemes must be utilized for the benefit of the farming community.

The meeting was attended by Joint Director Agriculture Extension, Joint Director Agriculture Inputs, Joint Director Agriculture Farms, Joint Director Apiculture and Mushroom, Joint Director Agriculture Engineering, Joint Director Marketing Mohammad, Deputy Director Planning, all chief agriculture officers and other senior officers of the department.
