Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Monday reported only two fresh cases of COVID-19, taking the cumulative infection tally in the union territory to 4,53,815, officials said here.

Both the fresh cases were reported from Kashmir division’s Srinagar district, they said.

Nineteen of the 20 districts in the union territory did not report any fresh case.

Moreover, seven more COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals including five from Kashmir and two from Jammu division in the last 24 hours, they said.

Currently there are 162 active cases of the disease in the union territory – 147 in Kashmir and 15 in Jammu division — while the number of recoveries has reached 4,48,903, the officials said.

The COVID-19 death toll in the union territory stands at 4,750 as no fresh fatality was reported in the last 24 hours. While 2,423 people have died to the disease in Kashmir division, 2327 lives have been lost in Jammu division.

The officials said there were 51 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus).

On vaccination, the daily media bulletin on novel coronavirus informed that 18,660 doses of COVID vaccine were administered in the last 24 hours bringing the cumulative number of doses administered so far across J&K to 2,22,15,619.

Meanwhile India recorded less than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases for the first time in 715 days even as the virus tally rose to 4,30,29,044, while the active infection count fell below 13,000, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.

The number of active cases is the lowest in 714 days, the data showed.

Thirteen new fatalities pushed the death toll from the pandemic to 5,21,358, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active case count comprises 0.03 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate remained at 98.76 percent, the ministry said.

India recorded COVID-19 cases below 1,000 for the first time since April 18, 2020 when 991 cases were reported.

A reduction of 416 cases has been recorded in the number of active infections in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.29 percent and the weekly positivity rate at 0.22 percent, according to the Health Ministry.

A total of 79.10 crore tests for the detection of COVID-19 have been conducted so far, including 3,14,823 in the last 24 hours.
