Dir Agri reviews preparedness of vegetable seedling distribution

Baramulla: The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal today inaugurated the vegetable seedling distribution event at special Hi-tech Poly house Wagoora, here.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director appreciated the efforts of the concerned officers/officials and said that the department has been successful in providing vegetable seedling to the farming community to a large extent round the year and this endeavour will continue till the set targets are achieved.

The Director marked the importance of vegetable cultivation in the region and asked the educated youth to come forward and adopt this enterprise for a better future and development of the agriculture sector. He said that the department has adopted a multi faceted marketing strategy wherein the marketing facilities are offered to the vegetable farmers at their door steps.

Iqbal asked the concerned officers to organize farmers’ awareness/training programmes especially focused on vegetable cultivation so that more and more farmers could adopt it on commercial lines. He said that vegetable cultivation has a vast potential and could play a key role in the socio economic transformation of the farming community.

Later, the Director visited oilseed (mustard) growing areas of zone Wagoora and zone Kreeri which has been brought under the national mission on edible oils (mustard).

Director Agriculture Kashmir was accompanied by Chief Agriculture Officer Baramulla, District Law Enforcement Officer, Assistant Soil Chemist STL Baramulla, Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer Baramulla and other officers of the department.
