Chinar Corps condoles demise of General Sunith Francis Rodrigues

Srinagar: On behalf of Chinar Corps, Lt Gen DP Pandey, GOC Chinar Corps condoled demise of General Sunith Francis Rodrigues, who passed away on March 04, 2022 at Manipal Hospital, Panaji, Goa.

“General Sunith Francis Rodrigues was commissioned into 9 Field Regiment on 28 December 1952. He commanded 165 Medium Regiment from January 1970 to October 1971. He served as the 15th COAS of Indian Army from 01 July 1990 to 30 June 1993,” said PRO (Defence) Srinagar.

“Gen Sunith Francis Rodrigues was the Honorable Governor to Punjab from 2004 to 2010. He was also Director of the International Centre, Goa for nearly six years. He served two terms on the National Security Advisory Board from 2004 to 2010. He was also on the Executive Council of Goa University for seven years and on the Managing Committee of the Goa Chamber of Commerce. He was also a long-standing Member of the Goa Planning Board and on the Board of Governors of the Goa Institute of Management. He had been engaged in social and literary pursuits and had also delivered talks on strategic issues. He was known as a thinker and strategist and has left behind a legacy of utmost dedication and service to the nation,” the PRO said.

“The demise of General Sunith Francis Rodrigues is an irreparable loss to the Indian Army. His memory will remain etched forever in our hearts and we will always be indebted to his invaluable contribution and service to nation. We pray to the Almighty to bestow peace to his departed soul and give courage to the bereaved family to bear the loss,” he said.\

“General Sunith Francis Rodrigues is survived by his wife Jean Rodrigues, two sons, Captain Neale Rodrigues (Merchant Navy) and Doctor Mark Rodrigues and a daughter, Susan Vishwanathan,” he added.
