Srinagar: The High Court on Thursday directed the Superintendent of Central Jail, Kot Balwal, Jammu, to explore possibilities of making necessary arrangements for allowing the jailed Kashmiri student to appear in the university examination.

J&K Police had arrested Sajad Ahmad Dar in January, days after he posted a video of a slain militant’s family raising “pro-freedom” slogans after his death.

Dar, a student at Central University of Kashmir, wrote for some newspapers and web portals.

“Sajad Ahmad Dar, who writes under the name Sajad Gul, is always in search of anti-government news and uploads fake tweets,” the police had said.

In an application through advocate N ARonga, the jailed journalist sought a direction to the Superintendent of Central Jail, Kotbalwal, Jammu, for making necessary arrangements for facilitating his appearance in the examination.

Dar is supposed to appear in the 3rd Semester MACJ examination to be conducted by Central University of Kashmir.

The examination as per the counsel for the petitioner is beginning from March 04, 2022.

The application was disposed of by Justice Sanjay Dhar with a direction to the Superintendent of Central Jail, KotBhalwal, Jammu “to explore the possibilities of making necessary arrangements for petitioner’s examination”.

Copy of this order was directed to be sent to the Superintendent of Central Jail, KotBhalwal, Jammu, for information and compliance.

A case under sections 147, 447, 336, and 353 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against Dar charging him for rioting, criminal trespass, preventing officers from carrying out their duty, and endangering people’s lives.
