Srinagar: National Conference (NC) on Tuesday said the party will prepare for elections once the “vague picture” created by the Delimitation Commission is cleared.

The party also lashed out at the Centre for maintaining silence over the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir alleging that the Union Home Minister’s promise on the floor of the Parliament is yet to be fulfilled.

“We have been listening for the last two years that elections will be held six to seven months after the delimitation commission submits its report. Once the vague picture created by the commission is cleared, we will prepare for elections as our party has always been a staunch supporter of democracy,” NC general secretary, Ali Mohammad Sagar told reporters at party office, Nawai Subh here.

He said the Union Home Minister Amit Shah had assured the country that statehood to J&K will be restored at an “appropriate time” even as so far no concrete efforts have been made in this direction.

“Nothing concrete has so far been adopted on the ground. People here feel suffocated; every section of the society including rich and poor face problems. People want their own representatives in the elected government,” he said, adding that his party is always ready for elections and whenever it’s confirmed that the panel’s report has been finalized and it’s to be adopted, preparations will be started.

Sagar also said that Jammu and Kashmir was a full-fledged country till 1947 having its own unique history and the same was “first downgraded into the state, and then to the union territory”, which he said is a “tragedy”.
