Director Agri Kashmir tightens noose on unregistered insecticides

Srinagar: Continuing its drive against the distribution and sale of unregistered, banned and spurious insecticides, pesticides, seeds, a team of Enforcement Wing of the Department of Agriculture lead by Director Agriculture Kashmir, Controller Insecticides, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal today inspected various insecticide and pesticide dealers of district Budgam.

During the visit some of the dealers were found involved in the trade of unregistered and banned insecticides. Taking cognizance under different provisions of insecticides act 1968, these inputs were seized on the spot and action in accordance with the set legal procedures was initiated.

In this regard, Director Agriculture Kashmir said that the trade of such unregistered and banned insecticides and pesticides not only causes serious damage to our cropping eco system but it also has a huge impact on our health. Chowdhary Iqbal said that there will be no compromise on quality of the different agriculture inputs including insecticides, pesticides, seeds etc.

Director Agriculture said that the Department has already adopted a multidimensional monitoring mechanism to stop the movement of banned material in the region and we are expecting good results in days to come.

Our internal vigilance monitoring system is ambitiously working in the entire region to curb the menace of unregistered insecticides and pesticides, he added.

Director Agriculture reiterated the Department’s commitment to serve the farmer’s interests and said that no stone would be left unturned to make this endeavor against illegal trade of unregistered and banned insecticides successful. Director Agriculture said that this valley wide drive will continue in coming days as well.

Director Agriculture was accompanied by Assistant Director Law Enforcement and a team of the enforcement officers.
